Adenomyosis

Adenomyosis

Description

Adenomyosis often develops toward the end of a woman’s reproductive years and goes away following menopause. Adenomyosis can occasionally result in extensive or protracted menstrual bleeding, excruciating cramps, pain during sex, or blood clots that pass during a period.
Certain medications may be able to decrease severe bleeding or relieve pain. The sole treatment is a hysterectomy, which removes the uterus.

The uterine wall’s layer of muscle undergoes adenomyosis when the cells that ordinarily line the uterus begin to proliferate there as well. Because adenomyosis needs the hormone oestrogen to develop, it can only be found in women who are in their reproductive years. After menopause, when oestrogen production declines, it eventually goes away.

Treatments

Foods with anti-inflammatory characteristics can aid in adenomyosis symptom relief. These foods include fatty fish like salmon, tuna, or mackerel, nuts like walnuts and almonds, fruits like strawberries and blueberries, and leafy green vegetables like spinach and kale.

Anti-inflammatory drugs

To manage the discomfort, your doctor may suggest anti-inflammatory drugs such ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, and other brands). You can lessen menstrual blood flow and lessen pain by starting an anti-inflammatory medication one to two days before the start of your period and taking it throughout your period.

Hysterectomy

Your doctor might advise having your uterus surgically removed if your pain is severe and other treatments have failed. It is not necessary to have your ovaries removed to manage adenomyosis.

hormone-related drugs

Birth control pills that contain both oestrogen and progestin, hormone patches, or vaginal rings may alleviate the pain and severe bleeding that come with adenomyosis. Amenorrhea is frequently brought on by methods of birth control that only include progestin, like intrauterine devices or long-term birth control pills.
