Description
An obstruction in the fallopian tubes prevents the egg and sperm from contacting each other, resulting in tubal factor infertility. 25–30% of all cases of infertility are caused by the tubal factor. A blocked fallopian tube prevents sperm from reaching the eggs and prevents the fertilised egg from returning to the uterus. Fallopian tube blockages are frequently caused by scar tissue, infections, and pelvic adhesions.
Pelvic inflammatory disease, endometriosis, prior surgeries, ectopic pregnancy, or tubal ligation can all result in tubal blockages or damage. The majority of women who have damaged or blocked fallopian tubes show no symptoms.
Treatments
In some instances, skipping the Fallopian tubes and going straight to IVF is the best course of action for blocked Fallopian tubes. Ovulation induction, egg extraction, fertilization, embryo transfer, and progesterone administration for two weeks after the transfer are all components of this procedure.
Your doctor may perform laparoscopic surgery to clear any scar tissue or adhesions that are obstructing your fallopian tubes and open them. It may not be able to address the obstructions in your fallopian tubes if there is a significant amount of scar tissue or adhesions present. An alternative for repairing tubes that have been harmed by an infection or ectopic pregnancy is surgery. A surgeon can join the two healthy segments of the fallopian tube if a blockage results from a damaged portion of the tube.
